Mechanism of action
Sodium L-pyrrolidone carboxylate — a native and abundant component of the skin's natural moisturising factor, present in the stratum corneum from birth and produced endogenously by filaggrin breakdown during corneocyte maturation. The molecule is exceptionally hygroscopic (binds water more efficiently per unit weight than glycerin in standardised RH-controlled assays), and because it is identical to the skin's endogenous PCA pool, topical application is genuinely supplementary rather than additive. The 'native NMF replenishment' framing is unusually accurate. Works synergistically with the rest of the NMF set (lactates, urea, amino acids, sugars).
