Mass balance accounts for certified inputs and their attribution to outputs within a defined system. It does not automatically measure the physical bio-based content in each bottle. The claim needs the applicable standard, system boundary, attributed amount and chain-of-custody evidence.
What to look for instead
State whether the claim concerns physical content or an accounting allocation. Mass balance can support a legitimate transition, but the customer should not be encouraged to imagine a composition the evidence does not establish.
