Shani Darden
A former backup dancer turned celebrity esthetician — Jessica Alba's, Kelly Rowland's, Chrissy Teigen's, Shay Mitchell's facialist — who launched her own product line in 2013 with the Retinol Reform serum, a cult Sephora best-seller credited with mainstreaming a tolerable retinol formulation.
"Build the products you wish existed for the clients in front of you."
— Shani Darden
Shani Darden began her career as a professional backup dancer in Los Angeles before training as an esthetician under a leading dermatologist. She opened her own studio in LA and built one of the most sought-after celebrity facial practices in the country, with a client roster that includes Jessica Alba, Kelly Rowland, Chrissy Teigen and Shay Mitchell.
She launched her first product, Retinol Reform — a buffered, lactic-acid-paired retinol serum — in 2013, formulated to deliver clinical results without the irritation that pushed many users off retinol. The serum became a cult Sephora best-seller and the foundation of the Shani Darden Skin Care line.
The brand has remained founder-led and tightly edited, with Darden continuing to see clients and signal-test new products through her LA practice before launching them at retail.
Treatment-room-tested formulation — products only ship after clinical validation in the studio.
Tolerability over potency — bigger active percentages are not the brief; consistent use is.
