"The Patagonia of beauty."
— Randi Christiansen
Randi Christiansen spent 15 years inside the Estée Lauder Companies, working on prestige brands including La Mer and Tom Ford Beauty. Her shared frustration with co-founder Nick Axelrod (Into The Gloss) was that body care had been abandoned by the serious science applied to facial skincare — body wash and lotion were treated as commodities, fragrance-loaded, and never held to clinical standards.
Nécessaire's thesis: treat the body the way prestige skincare treats the face. Clinical-concentration actives — niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, AHAs, peptides — in every format. Fragrance-free options as standard. Refillable packaging.
Christiansen describes Nécessaire as 'the Patagonia of beauty' — a brand where environmental commitment and product performance reinforce each other rather than compete. The brand has reinvigorated the body-care category.
Clinical concentration in body care is the standard, not the upsell.
Sustainability and performance are co-equal product requirements — not a tradeoff.
