Olive Oil

aka olea europaea fruit oil · extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) · olive oil

Classical botanical emollient with a long history of topical application. High oleic acid content (>70%) provides rich emolliency but also moderate comedogenicity. Use in body oils reflects its skin-softening tradition.

Benefits
  • Rich emollient — oleic acid dominant
  • Contains squalene, polyphenols (oleuropein), and vitamin E
  • Anti-inflammatory oleuropein activity
  • Skin softening and moisturising
  • Traditional use supporting consumer trust
Example uses
  • Body oils
  • Traditional cleansing oils
  • Nourishing face oils (dry/mature skin)
  • Hair oils
  • Rich body butters
Formulation notes

Prone to oxidation — antioxidant supplementation required. High oleic acid provides richness but increases comedogenicity. Unsaponifiable fraction contains squalene and polyphenols with secondary skin-beneficial activity.

Watchouts

High oleic acid content (>70%) associated with moderate-to-high comedogenicity risk. Research has shown that oleic acid may disrupt infant skin barrier — caution in baby product use, though this is less relevant to adult face formulations.

Clean beauty perception

Strongly accepted in clean beauty as one of the most natural and traditional oils available.
