Sweet Almond Oil
A classic emollient oil used in eye creams and cleansers. Balanced oleic/linoleic acid profile provides medium-weight emolliency. One of the most widely used botanical base oils in clean beauty.
Benefits

- Vitamin E co-fraction antioxidant
- Skin conditioning and softening
- Medium-weight absorption — less occlusive than heavier oils
- Widely accepted safety profile
Example uses

Mechanism of action
Oleic acid integrates into the stratum corneum lipid matrix providing emolliency. Linoleic acid contributes ceramide-2 precursor activity. Vitamin E co-fraction provides in-situ antioxidant protection via lipid-phase radical scavenging.

Well-characterised emollient with extensive use history. Safety confirmed by CIR and SCCS.

Formulation notes
High oleic content — some oxidative stability without additional antioxidant supplementation, but antioxidant pairing recommended. Compatible with most formulations.
Watchouts
Moderate-to-high oleic acid content means moderate comedogenicity potential for acne-prone skin. Tree nut source — almond allergen labelling required in some jurisdictions (EU food allergen cross-reference).

Controversies & overclaims
Almond allergen cross-reactivity consideration is underreported in topical beauty products. The evidence for topical tree nut allergen sensitisation is weaker than oral, but label disclosure is appropriate.
