Mechanism of action
Small amphiphilic molecule inserts into stratum corneum lipid bilayers, transiently increasing their fluidity and creating pores facilitating passage of co-dissolved actives. Unlike many penetration enhancers, does not cause significant membrane perturbation at cosmetic use concentrations.
